Dr Noëlle O'Connor
Senior Lecturer & Researcher

Noëlle is a Senior University Lecturer, Educational Developer, and Researcher at the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) in Ireland. My responsibilities include designing and delivering modules, leading research projects, and supporting the professional development of colleagues. I currently lead the National Teaching and Learning (SATLE-funded) initiative on embedding Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) within TUS and I am currently delivering TUS’s first ESD-focused Level 9 15 ECTS online module - Certificate in Embedding ESD in the Curriculum.
Previously, I served as a Senior University Lecturer within the TUS N-TUTORR Project which was a national project designed to transform learning, teaching, and assessment by focusing on transforming the student experience and as Acting Head of the Department of Languages, Tourism, and Hospitality at the South East Technological University. My teaching and research experience spans across Irish Higher Education (HE) institutions, including Technological University Dublin, and internationally as an MBA Online Senior Lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland.
I work with diverse groups of learners, from undergraduate students in tourism and hospitality to postgraduate professionals in ESD as well as my PhD students who are pursuing their doctoral studies in tourism, hospitality and marketing. My work also involves collaborating with European colleagues on Erasmus KA2 projects such as INSPIRE, EPICSTAYS, UPLIFT and FoodEcoCulture, contributing to innovative education and industry practices.
In addition to teaching, I have influenced and supported colleagues through mentoring, supervision, and participating in external validation panels across Europe and beyond. I have gained extensive extern examining experience in countries such as Austria, Macedonia and Nepal. I am also an Editorial Board member for leading tourism journals, including Annals of Tourism Research.
